Although padel is a sport that you can participate in straight away, there are many intricacies to the sport and there are a variety of tactics that you can employ and a variety of strokes that you can play. Here are some tips for those interested in the sport or just starting out.
Wall Hitting – Hitting the ball into a Plexiglas wall is a major part of this sport, so don’t avoid using it; the wall is not your enemy. When the ball bounces off the wall, it loses speed, so you actually have time to think about what shots you can hit instead of just returning them normally from the ground.
Court Position – When you stand at the back of the court, you should be on the same line as your partner. The ideal position is one step from the serving line and two steps from the side of the court. At the net, don’t stand too close. Instead, take two to three steps away from the net.
Relax the power – focus on getting the ball through the net and into play continuously. This will allow you to learn how to properly control the ball with your racket. Padre tennis is not a strength-based sport, even at the professional level.
Shoes on the court – Many players who are new to the sport will only choose tennis shoes, but in reality, playing padel tennis puts a tremendous amount of stress on a player’s Achilles tendon. Therefore, choose specialized padel tennis shoes from reputable manufacturers, as they will provide maximum comfort and cushioning specifically tailored to the stresses that padel tennis players endure.
